Year to Date (YTD)
Year to Date (YTD) is a time-based financial reporting metric that measures performance or financial results from the beginning of the current calendar or fiscal year up to the present date. It provides an interim snapshot of a company’s performance, often used for comparing results against budgets, forecasts, or the same period in previous years.
YTD figures are valuable for tracking revenue, expenses, profits, investment returns, or operational metrics and for identifying trends or variances early in the year.
Example:
If a company’s fiscal year starts on January 1, the revenue earned from January 1 to August 31 would be referred to as YTD Revenue as of August 31.
